Introducing the Lovely Janice Pullen
Dear Reader,
Today I have a special post dedicated to a beautiful black woman I had the pleasure to meet and interview: Ms. Janice Pullen. Ms. Janice is a veteran of the Air Force, a creative writer and the director of Women Vet Growth, an organization dedicated to "the growth of women vets, helping them speak up about their real life stories so it can change history".
We initially met at a book launch celebrating the photography of Bud Dorsey, a prominent black photographer in Louisville. We stood there for what felt like hours, falling into a conversation that changed effortlessly from one life lesson to another. While we were acquaintances, talking with her felt familiar, she has an energy that is so warm and inviting, you can ask her anything and she'll have advice for you. Therefore, I mustered up the courage to ask for an interview and was lucky enough to receive a yes. ❤ Below, you will find not only an interview, but a conversation that is quite special. It's a little over an hour but the knowledge is timeless as Ms. Janice speaks of trials that she had to overcome, the one piece of advice she uses almost everyday, the importance of listening and so much more. I hope that for whoever listens, there is something for you to learn because Ms. Janice is truly a remarkable woman with a kind spirit.
And while this post is different than my usual content, this conversation embodies the essence of owning your experience. Learning how to stand on your own two feet and making a path for yourself despite how much adversity you may receive. As women, we can define strength in our femininity and our care. Aspects of embracing who you are and why your here are all things we speak about so I hope this conversation will be one you listen to with an open mind & ear.
So without further ado, here is my lovely conversation with Janice ❤
Thank you for your service and thank you for taking the time to speak with me.
Sincerely,
Darkia
